Vertical Road Akram Khan Company
Internationally acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan brought to life Vertical Road – the World Premiere of which, on 16 September, opened autumn season at Curve Theatre.
This exciting production on human behaviour and its consequences, choices and inspirations are presented in the purest form of theatre – music and dance, lights and shadows, dynamics and composition.
Truly diverse team of performers including Eulalia Ayguade Farro (Spain), Konstandina Efthymiadou (Greece), Salah El Brogy (Egypt), Ahmed Khemis (Algeria/Tunisia), Young Jin Kim (South Korea), Yen-Ching Lin (Taiwan), Andrej Petrovic (Slovakia), and Paul Zivkovich (Australia) don’t spare their muscles and sweat to let audience realise what pace everyone is exposed to in daily life.
Khan is an award-winning choreographer of contemporary dance who previously collaborated with National Ballet of China, actress Juliette Binoche, singer Kylie Minogue and visual artist Anish Kapoor to name just a few.
In Vertical Road he continues to merge traditional and contemporary cultures and shows comprehensive relationship between human and God, dependence on gravity and continuous craving to claim up and move on whatever the challenge.
From Leicester Vertical Road travels on its world tour and will be seen in London, Paris, Barcelona, Ottawa. Myself, I am so pleased that I could enjoy it first.
