Polish ambassador to discuss relationship between Poland and its neighbours
HE Mr Witold Sobków, the Ambassador of Poland, will deliver this year’s Annual Sternberg Lecture at the University of Leicester on Tuesday 13 May.
HE Mr Witold Sobków, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Court of St James’s, will deliver the 2014 Annual Sternberg Lecture at the University of Leicester.
Mr Sobków will present on the topic of 'Poland and its Neighbours, Partners in the EU and Allies in NATO’ at the free public lecture on Tuesday 13 May at 5:30pm in the Peter Williams Lecture Theatre at the University of Leicester.
Mr Sobków has served as Political Director in the Polish Foreign Ministry. He has also worked in the Department of Strategy and Planning of Poland’s Foreign Policy, Unit and also as Under-Secretary for European Affairs. Mr Sobków was Poland’s Ambassador to Ireland from September 2002 to July 2006.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester Professor Sir Robert Burgess, who will be in attendance, said: „The University is delighted to host the annual Sternberg Lecture which is an important part of the University calendar. The Foundation does excellent work in supporting interfaith endeavour and promoting dialogue between multi-faith communities; something of which we are proud to be a part.”
The Annual Sternberg Lecture series has been running for over a decade and is sponsored by the Sternberg Foundation, headed by Sir Sigmund Sternberg, a British philanthropist who was knighted in 1976 for interfaith work and in 1985 he was made a Papal Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great (KCSG) by Pope John Paul II. He was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Leicester in 2007.
Past speakers in the lecture series have included Baroness Warsi, Moroccan Ambassador Belmahi, the late Dr LM Singhvi (former Indian High Commissioner), Cardinal Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop Nichols, Archbishop Carey, Archbishop Kevin MacDonald, Dr Jack Templeton, Rabbi Jonathan Romain, Dr Hans Kung and the late Sheikh Dr Zaki Badawi.
